The Wild Pony
Chris Fellow's father dies from a fight. Mr. Chase, the accidental killer of Chris's father, tells Mrs. Sarah Chase that if she ever needs anything to let him know and he'd do it. After some thinking, Sarah realizes that she will not be able to make it through the winter and asks Mr. Chase to marry her. At first Mr. Chase is opposed to the idea, but finally decides to marry her. Chris has his heart set on a wild pony. When Mr. Chase learns that the pony is going to be shot, he buys the pony. Sarah is upset that Mr. Chase bought the "useless" pony and forbids her daughter Jennifer to go near the pony. Mr. Chase begins breaking the pony to the sadle and tells Chris not to try riding the pony until the pony is fully broke. Chris disobeys and knocks the wind out him. Because of this, Sarah tells Mr. Chase to kill the pony. Jennifer, who overheard the conversation hides the gun. Killing the pony is put off because of the coming of a blizzard. When Mr. Chase is overdue with returning with the livestock, Chris sneaks outside and rides the wild pony to find Mr. Chase. Chris is unable to find Mr. Chase and he gets lost in the storm. After several hours of riding in the storm, Chris become unconscious and drops the reins. The pony then finds the way back home. Chris is fine, but the pony becomes deathly ill. Since Sarah realizes how much her son loves the horse she tries everything she can to save the pony.
I'm not certain why the movie is rated PG. My guess would be because of the fight. I don't think there is any blood in the fight... wait... Mr. Chase's lip does begin to bleed, but other than that I don't think there is any blood. I first watched this movie when I was nine or ten and it didn't frighten me. I do own an edited version that has swearing and violence cut out, so perhaps some of the clipped scenes contains more violence. Note: Some places rate the move "G" and other places rate the move PG.
