Season Four
1) Tug of War {aka Where There's A Will} * (Running Time 46 minutes)
A few weeks before Olivia is to have a baby, the majority of Jasper's relatives flock to Avonlea. The relatives all have rather unusual life styles and Hetty is astounded when she learns that they plan to stay and help Olivia take care of the baby. After a fight, Olivia storms out of King Farm and goes to Rose Cottage because due to contractions she is unable to walk back home.
2) The Lady and the Blade ****** (Running Time 47 minutes)
After Olivia hears Hetty criticize stories in a magazine, Olivia challenges Hetty to write one. Hetty writes a mysterious romance novel. Olivia is flabbergasted with Hetty's talent and secretly puts a chapter in the newspaper. At first Hetty is upset with Olivia for printing the story, but when a publishing company wants the story, she changes her mind. The new school teacher, Clive Pettibone, is thought to be a tyrant to the Avonlea children and begins criticizing Hetty's book.
3) Incident at Vernon River **** (Running Time 54 minutes)
For his 14th birhtday, Felix wants a rifle but instead receives a telescope. After Izzy and Morgan Pettibone ask Felix where his rifle is, Felix gets his father's rifle. Felix, Izzy, and Morgan take the rifle to the river and begin to practice shooting. When Felix sees a deer he becomes excited and shoots. Felix misses the deer and shoots Digger. Gus, hearing the shot, comes running and helps the children take Digger back to King Farm. Meanwhile Arthur Pettibone who is studying to be a veterinarian, is at King Farm. Much to the annoyance of Gus, Felicity is rather taken with Arthur.
4) Boys Will Be Boys **** (Running Time 44 minutes)
After a stable in Avonlea nearly burns down, the people of Avonlea decide that it needs a volunteer fire department. After much confusion with two fires, Alec and Clive are elected as chief and Hetty casts the deciding vote. Felix and Izzy attempt to do a science experiment with fire, but the fire gets out of hand.
5) Moving On {aka Sara and the Marshal} * (Running Time: 45 minutes)
A Wild West show comes to Avonlea and Sara falls in love with Zak Morgan. Sara begins riding rodeo to impress Zak. After some conniving, Felicity devises a way to try to help get Zak to notice Sara. Zak tells Sara that she is an excellent ride. Sara strongly believes that the show is what she was meant to do and asks Zak if she can permanently join the show, and Zak agrees.
6) Evelyn *** (Running Time 44 minutes)
Alec's friend Emmett, his wife, and baby son return to Avonlea. Because his farm did poorly, Emmett asks Alec to help him fish for food. While fishing, the ship exploids and Emmett dies. Alec feels responsible for Emmett's death and begins to run both farms. To earn money, Evelyn begins teaching Cecily how to play the piano. Because Alec spends much of his time at Evelyn's place the town begins talking.
7) The Dinner {aka Felicity's Grand Design} **** (Running Time 44 minutes)
Felicity is tired of “living in a fishbowl” and talks Alec and Janet into having a romantic dinner at the White Sands. Felix, Izzy, and Morgan devise a plan to trick their parents and are able to be where ever they wish to be that night. Felicity talks Sara into letting Cecily and Daniel come over and then invites Gus over for supper. Alec and Janet return home early and catch “the two lovebirds”. Felicity is forbidden to talk to Gus. In desperation, Gus turns to Sara for help.
8) Heirs and Graces **** (Running Time 45 minutes)
Simon Tremayne, the new manager of White Sands Hotel, is looking for an assistant and hires Felix. Felix's job places him about Gus and Felix begins ordering Gus around. The Duke of Arranagh was going to come to Avonlea, but Mr. Tremayne declines the invitation. When Felix discovers that Mr. Tremayne personal plates have the same crest as the Dukes, Felix returns the plates to whom he thinks is the rightful owner.
9) Hearts and Flowers {aka Servant of Two Masters} **** (Running Time 44 minutes)
Hetty has been having trouble writing and Olivia encourages Hetty to see if she can become a “silent partner” at the hotel. Mr. Tremayne agrees, but becomes annoyed when Hetty begins irritating the customers. In desperation, Mr. Tremayne tells Hetty that if she can run the hotel until the Valentine dance and if she makes a profit she will no longer be a “silent” partner. Arthur is furious that Gus asked Felicity to the ball first and demands that Felicity should have a dance with him.
10) Felicity's Perfect Beau ***** (Running Time 44 minutes)
When Felicity receives a proposal from Gus and courting permission from Arthur she becomes confused when she tries to choose. She becomes upset with Gus because she thinks that Gus acts like he owns her. When Felicity simmers down, she realizes her mistake, but she still needs to decide between the two. Felicity turns to Sara for help, but doesn't appreciate Sara's advice. Felicity then turns to Janet's advice, but still is unable to choose.
11) The Disappearance *** (Running Time 45 minutes)
The nephew of a wealthy woman mysteriously disappears and a search is made. An antique dealer comes to Avonlea and appraises their valuables. After Eulalie Bugle calls the number on his card and learns that the number isn't there she is convinced that the man is a fake. Soon the antique dealer disappears and a detective, with the help of Sara, finds the missing people- but lets the antique dealer “escape.”
12) Jasper's Home Movie ****** (Running Time 49 minutes)
An American developer tries to modernize Avonlea and the townspeople have mixed opinions. Olivia and Janet are for selling the “tiny bit of land” but Hetty and Alec are against it. Hetty begins making fun of Jasper and his inventions and riles Olivia. Sara gets money from her trust fund and buys the motion picture camera that Jasper has been admiring. Sara pretends that the Edison company wants Jasper to experiment frames. When Hetty discovers what Sara has done behind her back, she demands that Jasper return the camera. When Hetty sees what Jasper has done she has Jasper make a motion picture of it and shows it to the people of Avonlea trying to convince them not to sell out.
13) Hearth and Home **** (Running Time 44 minutes)
Aunt Eliza surprising arrives in Avonlea and tells Janet that she must have forgotten that she had written that she was coming for a visit. Meanwhile, Sara and Felix, who are searching for a science experiment, discover one in Jasper's workshop. Everyone is busy with lambing season and Janet and Alec are worn out. Unbeknownst to them, Felix and Eliza have changed beds and Janet tells her feelings to Alec. Eliza runs away and falls into an ice fishing hole. Janet finds a nearly frozen Eliza and it is up to Felix and Sara's science experiment to save Eliza and the sheep.
